LEGAL NOTICE-2023 CROSS COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL ELECTION

LEGAL NOTICE OF ANNUAL SCHOOL ELECTION

CROSS COUNTY DISTRICT NO. 7

CROSS COUNTY, ARKANSAS

 

Notice is hereby given that the annual school election in the above-named school district will be held May 9, 2023, for the following purposes:

 

  1. 1) To elect one member of the Board of Directors from Zone 6 from the following candidates:

JOHN ANDREWS, JR.

JOSEPH KATLYN McCLANAHAN

 

  1. 2) To set the millage rate for the 2023-2024 school year as proposed by the Board of Directors as follows:

39.9 MILL SCHOOL TAX

The total rate proposed above includes the uniform rate of tax 25.0 mills (the "Statewide Uniform Rate") to be collected on all taxable property In the State and remitted to the State Treasurer pursuant to Amendment No. 74 to the Arkansas Constitution to be used solely for maintenance and operation of schools in the State.  As provided in Amendment No. 74, the Statewide Uniform Rate replaces a portion of the existing rate of tax levied by this School District and available for maintenance and operation of schools in the School District.  The total proposed school tax levy of 39.9 mills includes 26.3 mills specifically voted for general maintenance and operation and 13.6 mills voted for debt service previously voted as a continuing levy pledged for the retirement of existing bonded indebtedness.  The surplus revenues produced each year by debt service millage may be used by the District for other school purposes.  The total proposed school tax levy of 39.9 mills represents the same rate presently being collected.

 

The Cross County Board of Election Commissioners has declared that Early Voting will be held in the Cross County Courthouse Annex Building beginning Tuesday, May 2, and ending Monday, May 8, with no Saturday voting.  The hours for Early Voting are 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. 

 

Election Day voting, May 9, will be held from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.  The following vote centers will be open in the county:

On Tuesday, May 9, opening and processing of absentee ballots will begin at 6:00 p.m.  Early votes will be counted at 7:30 p.m. followed by the counting of the absentee ballots.

 

A list of appointed election officials will be posted at the office of the County Clerk on April 24.  An objection to a poll worker can be made by filing a written complaint to the Cross County Board of Election Commissioners at the office of the county clerk within ten (10) days after the list of officials is posted.
